BioFaeries have a nasty little tendency of being unable to leave well enough alone. Such was the case when Kaye Fierch and her mother left their small home for the hustled life of big cities all over New Jersey. From the time Kaye was little she was visited by three faeries, Spike, Lutie-loo, and Gristle, thought no one believed her when she told them such, little girls often make up stories. And when she moved from her home she lost contact with her magical friends and that was the end of her magical life, or so she thought.
A strange turn of events that seemed completely coincidental, though Kaye would later find out this was not the case since the events were more plot to bring her home, forced Kaye and her mother to leave their broken life in the city for home. Not that Kaye complained much about leaving. The city always smelled and tasted of iron and it just wasn't what she enjoyed. And when Kaye's mother's boyfriend attacked her mother with a knife it became obvious that the two needed to move out from his home and the only place to go was back to her grandmothers, back to the faeries that she thought were only a childhood dream.
Once back home Kaye ignored the fact that she used to play for hours in the woods with creatures that did not exist. Instead she turned her attention to forming a life amongst her old friends, and all was going well in this endeavor until a walk home one night would change the course of Kaye's life forever. That was the first time she had seen a faerie since she had moved away years ago and it certainly wouldn't be her last. Kaye saved this faeries life, and in return he gave her three questions, two of which were wasted and useless by her lack of thinking, but the third that gained her such a powerful tool, that enslaved the faerie to her, his name. Rath Roiben Rye.
After that night Kaye's life was complete chaos. Her old friends- Spike and Lutie-loo- contacted her and warned her to stay away from the faerie night. Instead, they had a request of her. The Tithe was fast approaching and the Unseelie court faeries planned to sacrifice Kaye in order to keep the unclaimed faeries of their lands their slaves. All Kaye had to do in this plan was pretend to be the willing sacrifice and they would reveal to the the others that she was in fact a faerie before being sacrificed (a fact she had not known until then), what she didn't know was that it was very much not pretend. Her life was almost forfeit, until Roiben saved her at the last minute from the invocation of his true name. After that Roiben took the thrown from the clutches of King Nephamael. Nephamael wasn't the rightful king, though. The thrown truly belonged to Roiben after he had killed the Unseelie court queen, Nicnevin, but Roiben didn't have much of a say in the matter when he was Nephamael's slave since the man learned his true name. If Kaye had not poisoned the unrightful king he would still be ruling over the lands and Roiben and Kaye might both be dead.
Most people would think that with Roiben as king and Kaye his girlfriend of sorts that things would be much better off, but things are never completely good. Especially when a bunch of faeries trick Kaye into taking on a quest to prove her love to Roiben and she can't ever see him until the quest is done, and finding a faerie that can lie is an impossible quest. And not to mention the Seelie court faeries now wishing to wage war on the Unseelie court in an attempt to claim their lands. But Kaye can't let the Seelie court win, which is her driving force in solving the quest given to her. And oddly she, succeeds. She tells a faerie that she can lie, but the other faerie says she can't meaning that one of the two is lying. And now that she is able to be with Roiben once again she is able to help him defeat the Seelie Queen. After Roiben is forced into a battle with his sister he kills the Seelie Queen and names his sister queen in her place, who passes the crown onto Roiben, giving Roiben control of both the Seelie and Unseelie courts.
And all seems to be right once again. Kaye is officially Roiben's consort, she's returned the little human girl she was switched with as a child to her mother, she still lives with her mother on occasion, and she's proceeded to start her life as a pixie pretending to be a human.
